SOUTH OF NOWHERE & Mandy Musgrave Honored with Wave Awards!
EASTON, PA / Dec 18, 2007 --- A dysfunctional family, a former “Queen”, a cheerleader and a crazy cooking show are among the winners of the 1st Annual Wave Awards, the awards honoring entertainment content available on mobile phones.
Winners in twenty-five categories were announced by Academy of Wireless Arts, Video and Entertainment chief Kip Hartman. Categories included mobile games, music, applications, technology and video. Nominees were selected by the Academy, with voting online by the public.
MTV Networks won the coveted Content Creator of the Year Award, aided by wins for Favorite Reality Series “The Hills” and Favorite Mobile Dramatic Series “South of Nowhere”.
“South of Nowhere” star Mandy Musgrave was honored as Favorite Mobile Dramatic Artist, while former “King of Queens” star Leah Remini was voted Favorite Mobile Comedy Artist for “In the Motherhood”. Quirky cooking show “Bitchin’ Kitchen” was voted Favorite Mobile Comedy Series.
In the four ‘clipped from TV’ categories, “Heroes” was a multiple winner for Favorite Clipped Dramatic Artist, with Hayden Panettiere getting the nod, and Favorite Clipped Dramatic Series. The animated “Family Guy” was voted Favorite Clipped Comedy Series, with “Ugly Betty” star America Ferrera voted Favorite Clipped Comedy Artist.
Other multiple winners include Justin Timberlake for Mobile Music Artist of the Year and Favorite Music Video for “What Goes Around (Comes Around)” and popular mobile game manufacturer Gameloft for Favorite Mobile Action Game (“Heroes: The Mobile Game”) and Favorite Mobile Strategy Game (“CSI: Miami).
In technology categories Apple was voted Mobile Handset of the Year, Verizon Wireless was voted Favorite Wireless Carrier, and Bonfire Media’s “WikiMobile” was voted Favorite Mobile Application.
The Academy also announced that it will honor the late Gene Roddenberry with the annual Pioneer Award for Lifetime Achievement in Mobile Entertainment and Communications. Roddenberry’s imagination and innovation, along with his writers on the original Star Trek series, in creating a communicator in the mid-1960s that has been compared to a modern-day ‘flip phone’ with GPS capability was cited.
Wave Awards will be presented in private ceremonies scheduled for January, 2008 in Los Angeles and New York.
